Spotlight: Anne Curtis

Blessed with talent, beautiful features and exuding confidence, Anne Curtis is no doubt one of the finest showbiz icons of today. She is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in the industry.

From the pages of magazines…

…various commercials…

…hit noon-time shows…

…prime-time teleseryes…

…blockbuster movies…

…Anne Curtis has not failed to make a name for her self.

Glamour in every pose and in every endorsement of any given product is apparent as it comes from her sincerity and dedication to every project. And her acting becomes better and better as she accepts every challenge to portray various roles. She always put her heart and soul in every role assigned to her.

From a cute little darling to a glamorous model, from a rising child actress to an award-winning actress, Anne Curtis has proven her self in the showbiz industry through the years – A glamorous model, an award winning-actress, a concert queen?

Anne Curtis has been making buzzes in the industry recently about a budding singing career.

She has sold-out concerts and albums despite her rather relative voice. Along with her rise to the music ladder are bashes and criticisms on her ability or disability to sing – it would actually depend on how one views it. Does she deserve to be given a break in the music industry?

The past year was a blast for her career and with a new window open for her, she took the opportunity to challenge her self, break boundaries and explore her potentials. She is a woman not afraid to take risks. Entitled to the pursuit of her own happiness, she continued on striving hard thru the realization of her dreams. Her determination to turn her dream of being a singer into a reality is truly a remarkable and admirable quality. Never did she have any hesitation to pursue a singing career with all the criticisms left and right. Her focus and purity of intention is what turned her dream into a reality.

The first album of the 28-year-old actress and singer Anne Curtis was released on September 15, 2013. It was a record-breaking first album, “Annebisyosa” which features catchy, positive, and bubbly tracks. The “Annebisyosa” album is composed of six revival tracks and two original songs. The album actually debuted at the no. 1 spot on Astrovision/Astroplus Top-Selling Albums. In just two weeks after its release, the album reached its gold status and after two months in the market, it received the Platinum Award. The success of the first album was followed by a second album of Anne Curtis, “AnneKapal” which composes of 10 original songs released under Viva Records. It was released early 2014.

Anne Curtis’s first original track was her opening track in her first album, entitled “Tinamaan ako”. It is actually the best track in her first album since the album took a safe route of having eight revivals and only two original songs. Although Curtis sounded awkward with some of the tagalog words in the lyrics, the lead single “Tinamaan Ako” was fun to listen to because of its goofy lyrics and laid-back vibe. Given her limited vocal abilities, there’s really no strong reason to check it out, unless you’re just in the mood for a feel-good, easy going melody or you’re really a fan of hers (or you want to have Anne’s autograph and picture during the promotional mall shows.) Nevertheless, you can feel a sense of passion in her debut. However, I don’t think passion alone can carry an album or even a career.

Spotlight: Paramore by Paramore

Paramore is back and it’s here to stay!

After a long wait for the new album, it has finally arrived. I was curious about the direction Paramore would be taking on their latest effort and now it’s finally here. I can very much say that it is better than ever!

Paramore released its self-titled album in April 5, 2013. It is the first full-length album of the American rock band Paramore after the departure of co-founders Josh Farro and Zac Farro in 2010. And can I just say… I love it so much!

The album was described by the band as being a “statement”, a reintroduction of the band to the world and to themselves. It was a commercial success, topping the charts in many different countries. Paramore received universal commendation from music critics, who applauded the band’s maturity and experimentation in terms of musicianship.

Paramore went through many challenges. Many criticisms have been sprawling against this album and I find them very ridiculous. One of the things the album is criticized for is for being “pop”. As a fan of the band, I cannot believe that people criticize it for being “pop”. I mean, the only pop song in the album is ‘Still Into You’! Anyhow, people may argue that it is not their best but it is amazing. In fact, I can say that this is definitely one of the best albums I have heard this year. It is indeed a masterpiece! Paramore feels far more human and sincere than anything the band has ever made. It’s definitely one of the finest music these three artists–vocalist Hayley Williams, guitarist Taylor York and bassist Jeremy Davis have committed to tape to date. Paramore feels so penetrating yet so intimate.

As a full record, Paramore certainly isn’t for everyone. However, there’s certainly something for everyone. There will be some Paramore fans upset with their departure from teen rock, but this album brings a more creative and experimental sound to their discography. The new flavor is brilliant. The sound is so diverse. There’s more than just guitars and electronica: there are ukuleles, string sections, harmonicas and even a gospel choir. The variety is so refreshing. The musicianship is solid. The drums were so much better than the previous album. The sequencing of the songs and the interludes were impeccable. The transitions from the soft moods to a sudden return of pace were marvelous. And not to mention Hayley Williams’ immaculate voice! The album highlighted Hayley’s vocal prowess. There’s also something exceptional with their lyrics. There’s soul. There’s more to them than just music. It reflected something within. Many songs reflected on their troubles with Farros, declarations of moving on and willingness to try new things. After all the drama Paramore’s confronted with over the last three years, they’ve come out the other side as a multi-dimensional band who’s willing to push their own borders, marking their greatest artistic statement. All of the tracks are fun to listen to and are very fluid. It is a great album.

There are two types of bands in this world: Those who evolve and those who change. Paramore’s self-titled album is a prime example of what happens when a band changes. It is a bold step. This may not be what we were expecting and may not be the Paramore that we’ve come to know and love, but they are on the journey of discovering who they really are, and this album may stand as an important step on that path. Overall, it’s hard to say anything cumulatively negative about the album. It’s not perfect, no, but it’s pretty darn close. Paramore has shown a tremendous growth with each album: from kids on Falling, to teens on Riot!, to young adults on Brand New Eyes, and finally to adults on Paramore. It’s amazing to see that from good albums, they make great ones.

I highly recommend this album. It shows maturity, growth, and more feeling. I hope for more albums like this in the future. 🙂

On some days, I like to go girly 🙂

As a college student and an active school organization member, I am always on-the-go. In these days, I pull out my ever-trusted black skater skirt and pair it with any blouse that would look good with it. It is like my “go-to girly outfit”. It’s comfortable and chic.

This is why fashion staples are important to have in your closet. Fashion staples like the black skirt (black is a great color coz you can match it with anything) is really good for mixing and matching.

In this outfit, I paired the skirt with a cream top I made. Whenever I have time, I like buying my own cloth and making my own clothes. This is how I am different from others. I’ve got items in my closet that are originally made for my own preference 🙂

I love stocking my closet with comfortable shoes too, since I’m always on the go. Comfortable can come in cute pieces like this black flats.

To conclude the outfit, finish it with cute accessories. I like to go minimalist in some days. In this outfit, I finished it with a wrap-around watch and pearl earings.
